In the dynamic and high risk field of pharmaceutical research and development (R&D), Organon has achieved a number of important ‘firsts’ and continues to be a pioneer in developing treatments in the areas of gynecology, fertility, neuroscience, anesthesia and immunology.
Our commitment to innovation is such that we devote about 19 percent of our total sales income to R&D. Up to 20 per cent of the discovery research budget is spent on external collaborations. Approximately 2,500 staff – approaching one-fifth of the total workforce at Organon – make up our teams of R&D specialists who are active at seven locations on three continents.
The voyage of discovery that is R&D pits the skills and perseverance of our experts against a multitude of possible chemical and biological combinations. The products which are finally accepted as treatments will have endured 10 to 12 years of rigorous experimentation, selection, evaluation and official approval.
R&D is a challenging field of work with no guarantee of success, but one in which the rewards are great. In the words of one of Organon’s research leaders, “It’s a great feeling when you know you have a product that is going to offer genuine therapeutic benefits to people”.
Organon is committed to the discovery and development of compounds that will make a difference to our customers and add value to the healthcare options available. Toward that end, we take the needs of patients and doctors as the starting point for developing truly innovative solutions. We are constantly on the look out not only for new drugs but also for new avenues of exploration which will allow us to bring new and more convenient products to market in the shortest possible time, without ever compromising on safety. |
