Executive Director, Women's Health & Established Brands

Amy Cairns, Executive Director of the Women’s Health & Established Brands at Organon Canada, has fostered a career in the pharmaceutical industry over the past 18 years.

Through her career, Amy has gained experience and expertise in a variety of areas. At Merck, she assumed critical roles with increasing scope and responsibility to help shape the strategic direction of the organization and act as a key contributing member on the Executive Leadership Team. She then transitioned from Merck Canada to its spinoff, Organon Canada, when she was appointed to lead the Women’s Health division and will continue to serve on the Executive Leadership Team.

Prior to joining Organon Canada, Amy held the position of Vice President, Digital and Commercial Operations, leading multiple functional areas including Customer Experience, Business Intelligence, Quantitative Science, Trade Relations, Business Development, Learning & Development, Patient Support Services, as well as leading the development and execution of the Enterprise Digital Transformation Strategy.

Amy lives in Montreal with her husband George, their two children Christopher and Sapphira, and their German shepherd, Misa.

Valérie Joseph

Director, Regulatory Affairs and Pharmacovigilance

Valérie Joseph brings 20 years of experience in regulatory affairs. In her current role at Organon Canada, she oversees regulatory and pharmacovigilance activities, ensuring regulatory compliance and safe and effective product use from registration and through the product lifecycle. She leads the RAPV team and support business opportunities to deliver health solutions that fulfill the company’s mission of improving women’s health.

Valérie worked for Merck Canada for 13 years, where she most recently served as Associate Director, Regulatory Affairs. Earlier in her career, she held progressively responsible roles at other companies including Shire Biologics and Lundbeck. Before entering the pharmaceutical industry, Valérie worked in the research environment as a post-graduate student at the neurology unit at Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM).

Valérie was on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Professionals in Regulatory Affairs (CAPRA) from 2014-2020, leading the organization as Programming Lead and subsequently Vice-Chair and Chair of the Board.

She regularly lectures bachelor and post graduate students at Université de Montreal and Université Laval and is actively committed to mentoring and sharing her knowledge with students.

Valérie earned her M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Drug Development) from Université de Montréal and holds her Regulatory Affairs Certification (RAC-Canada).

Catherine Brown

Director, Business Practices & Privacy Officer

In her role as Director, Business Practices and Privacy Officer, Catherine helps the organization understand inherent risks and bring solutions to help grow the business. She applies local nuances to corporate policies and is responsible for implementing the organization’s privacy program as well as collaborating across functions to improve our processes.

Prior to this role, Catherine spent 16 years with Merck Canada in different positions touching Operational Excellence, Learning & Development, Demand Planning, Strategy Realization, and Chief of Staff. Over her last 3 years, she oversaw the organization’s Patient Support Programs department, leading a team of 12.

Catherine spent a decade working in Aerospace, working in Pricing, Procurement and then in Project Management where she became a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt.

Catherine has a Bachelor of Commerce in Administrative Management from Concordia University. Catherine and her husband Justin, have two daughters (Jenna & Lily). The family enjoys travelling and taking care of Kali, their pet Bichon Frisé.

Yann Laverdure

Director of Finance

Yann, Director of Finance, is a Certified Public Accountant with 25 years of experience, including 20 years with Merck and Merck Canada where he held various Finance roles in Cost Accounting, Global Franchise Planning (US Headquarters), General Accounting (Assistant Controller). His more recent role in Financial Planning has brought him to provide financial support to all the company’s Business Units.

Yann was instrumental to the success of the implementation of key finance projects, including COMET SAP, FOM and the Local Planning Tool over his years with Merck. He also acted as Finance Lead for the Oncology Business Unit since its creation where he guided the team through its successful growth.

In addition to being a CPA, Yann holds a bachelor degree in Finance from Sherbrooke University.

Michael Casia

President & Managing Director

Michael has played a key role in Organon’s global organization, helping to develop the business case, strategy as well as the stand-up of Organon as a spinoff company from Merck & Co since January 2019, supporting Organon’s CEO, Kevin Ali, as his Chief of Staff.

Having spent 20 years of his career within the pharmaceutical industry, 14 of those years at Merck/MSD in country, regional, global roles that have brought him to work in the U.S, Belgium, Finland, Switzerland and France before now coming back home to Canada.  Prior to working on the spinoff, he successfully led MSD Finland (Merck’s subsidiary in Finland) as Managing Director, moving the company to the #1 multi-national pharmaceutical company in Finland during his tenure.

Michael holds an MBA from Columbia Business School in New York and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from McGill University. Michael and his wife Charlotte have a 3-year-old son, James, and expecting a new addition to the family later this year.
